:+: Aladin Cafe :+:

***Very short and simple post. Posting from Coll's lab***
Vivian smsed me to lunch a couple of days ago. Accompany her to a blind dat (just some new friends she knew from somewhere, somehow). To a special place called Aladin Cafe. I've heard of this place many times but I've never been there.
Aladin Cafe is located in the Carpenter Street. I don't like going to Carpenter Street as they are a lot of cars there and it is very hard to find parking plus it's very jam!

Anyway, to get to Aladin Cafe, just turn in at the Old Post Office.

From the Post Office you can start eyeing for a parking spot. The cafe is not far from the Post Office.
Look UP (yes atas) for the sign board, 'Aladin Cafe'.

Indeed in Carpenter Street, the shops are at least 100 years old (exagerating). Probably at least 50 years old. It is very Chinese-Buddhist inside. There were lots of people eating there.

Turn left turn right.. I looked around the cafe many times, but still can't spot Aladin. Mana dia??

Mari makan..

The Chicken is SUPERB!! Have you tried 'Leng Pua' (Cold Dish with Special Steamed Chicken that has alcohol taste). The liquor smell from the chicken is seducing. A bite into the chicken is.. Heavenly!!! They poured this special thick light brownish alcoholy (Chinese White Wine) sauce on the chicken. The soup served is the Szechuan vegetable soup. The typical chicke rice sauce: minced chilli with garlic and lime juice sauce. Geng!

I was told that their Fried Chicken is very SEDAP!! They only do the fried chicken at night. I would find a chance to cuba cuba one night. kikiki..

:+: Little Lebanon :+:

Introducing..
:+: Ehon with his Mix Kebabs :+:
Sir Ehon is back in Kuching. Missing our small little hometown and craving for local food and updating with latest trendy cafe here.

Set a dinner meet up with Sir Eh
on, Choulyin, Angel, Vivian and Anna (me, me & me).

Date: 12th July 2007 [Thursday]

Time: 7.00pm
[Arrived in a very Malaysian style, 7.45pm. Paiseh arr Ehon! First time meet already so Malaysian..]

Venue: Little Lebanon, Old Court House, Waterfront.
** FYI, Little Lebanon serves Shi Sha at RM9. Different fruits flavas at your own choice. **

Difficulty:
There was the Launching of the RWMF at the Old Court House and there were no parking. The only place we could park were the side road (yellow line) and the parking along Main Bazaar (Need to walk damn far). In the end, we puek (talk) to the guards and ask them to get us a parking in the Court Parking Lot. We were told to just park at the yellow line as they already got the special letter for 'saman-free'. So, if we were to park there, the traffic police won't saman for yellow line parking. Some kind of special exemptions.

There are two types of Lebanese Bread in the menu; Lebanese Cheese Bread and Lebanese Meat Bread. I came to Little Lebanon before and I've tried both. I like the Lebanese Cheese Bread more. It is actually a pita bread with cheese and sour cream and chopped onions in it, accompanied with fresh salad.

Ge cannot tahan anymore. She started to poke poke the bread with the fork.

Yummy Sheesh Kebabs - Tender Lamb meat BBQ shiok shiok with brinjal, button mushroom, carrot, onions. Accompanied with Pyramid Briyani Rice , Half Pita Bread and fresh vegetables.

Curi this picture from Ehon's blog. Food War (Star War) epics with our Kebabs-di (Jedi).

Chicken Shawarma Sandwich is a wrapping of chicken meat in the pita bread. Accompanied with pickled cucumber and tomato, and also fries.

Doing what bloggers does best, we camwhore anywhere, anything and at anytime. Vivian was the only non-blogger. She kinda terasa a bit when we busy ourselves camwhoring around.

In these pictures, there's picture of the restaurant, the tent in it, the beautiful lighting. Next, Ehon taking picture of his Light Coke and a group picture without me in it, and a random picture. Lastly, a picture of Yin explaining something on her phone to Ge.

The Fruit Salad's serving is very small. The black powder around the plate is blackpepper, used for decorating the dishes. Actually, you should blow the pepper while spinning the plate. *crapping* Then mix the food together with it. Kekekeke.. If any of you actually do that, send me a copy of the picture. XDD

It was a great dinner (despite that we had to wait for 20minutes for our food to come). It was the company that matters. Having friends to hang out with and lots and lots of camwhoring (which is the greatest among greats), that made a good evening.

and not forgetting lots and lots of Laughxercise (laughing exercise)..

:+: After dinner, we went to Cafe Chino, Hilton for awhile :+:

:+: Met up with Sam, Ben, Alwyn and their friends :+:

:+: Kin Jio Hiok :+:

LL Banana Leaf is a South Indian Cafe. The taukeh-nio's name is Lucy. How I know? I know lar.. Yerdeh~

History:
Long long time ago, in the Satok Land, there was a man who worked there. That man is my Daddy. When he first graduaded from Uni (far far away from Kuching), he started working for some firm in the same block as LL Banana Leaf. So, he came here for lunch very often. Therefore, know the taukeh-nio name lor. He Likes their Mutton Curry till this present day. And his love for mutton curry was carried down to his daughter, me lor..

Actually hor, come to LL Banana Leaf sure eat banana leaf lo...
Kekeke.. I'm SERIOUS *giving a very serious face*. Here in Lucy's, they are famous for their Vegetarian Banana Leaf. First they set a piece of clean banana leaf in front of you. Then, you take a piece of tissue and gulung with the banana leaf and start eating that way.
grok grok..

.___________.

The tissue paper is to dry your leaf lar.

When your leaf is dried, they will start serving vegetables. Lots and lots of vegetables. You can mintak manyak manyak if you like to. After all, this Vegetarian Banana Leaf is like buffet just not self service. You can ask for refill as long as you can finish them.

There are two types of rice for you to choose, Nasi Briyani and Plain White Rice. I chose Plain White Rice because the Nasi Briyani alone got bermacam-macam goodies in it and there's so many veges and curry to go with. How to eat? Just keep it simple, plain white rice will do just fine. (:

A: Spinach
B: Long beans
C: Money Chai and Pumpkin
D: Spicy Ikan Bilis
E: My favourite Yummilicious No. 1 Spicy Pineapple
F: Cucumber and Tomato pickles
G: Papadham Best cracker in the world
H: My favourite Mutton Curry
This mutton curry does not come with the 'buffet'. Hence, it's called Vegetarian Banana Leaf. The mutton curry is additional dish. This is a must EAT dish when you come to Lucy's.

This is Asam Curry Fish. It's spicy and sour. I'm not sure what's the fish they use, but one thing for sure, there's something fishy in there. kekeke...

This is their special drink. I never knew they serve such NICE YUMMYLICIOUS drink till Gladys ordered it. It taste exactly like the yoghurt drink you buy from Supermarket, just that it tastes fresher and nicer here. I'll order one of this when I go to Lucy's next time.
I like these two pictures and I can't decide which to upload so I uploaded both. Kekeke...

This one everyone knows what it is and how it tastes like. But in Lucy's, their Teh Tarik is NOT SO EXAGERATING DIEBETES SWEET unlike those mamak who like to taruh (put) LITRES of condensed milk into the tea before they start pulling (tarik the teh). You can taste that they not only use condense milk but also creamer milk (eg: Ideal Milk) giving it creamy milky taste without being TOO sweet. I like.

I didn't get any refill though. My cousin and aunty did. (Tua Chiakness) XDD
When you're done eating, just fold the banana leaf in halves, but I terer go fold in threes. Kekeke..

:+: Happy Rice Dumpling Day :+:

Here's a happy looking Rice Dumpling.
Wishing all Happy Zhang (Rice Dumpling) Day~

Duan Wu Jie aka Dumpling Festival or Dragon Boat Festival is a day to remember the poet Qu Yuan, who was a loyal official in the court of the Chu Kingdom in old China. Other officials told lies about Qu Yuan to the emperor. The weak emperor believed the evil officials and asked Qu Yuan to leave the court. Over 20 years, the Chu kingdom got weaker. Qu Yuan was very sad that his beloved country was controlled by another country, the Qin Kingdom. He then decided to end his life by jumping into the river aka suicide. Fisherman who heard that Qu Yuan drowned himself in the river set sail on boats to look for his body. When they could not find it, they threw rice wrapped in bamboo leaves into the river so that the fish in the river would eat the rice instead of his body. The traditions of dragon boat races and eating rice dumplings on Duan Wu Jie thus begin.

Every year on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Lunar calendar (sometime in June as today), Rice Dumpling is specially eaten on this particular day. On this day too, the Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated. I remember last time, we used to have those boat race at Waterfront, Kuching. But then, I don't hear about it anymore. *sigh*

:+: Nyonya Rice Dumpling @ RM2 :+:
This Bak Zhang is bought from a lady who sells at Kopitiams. We bought from her at Sin Poh Poh Kopitiam. Every Sunday, around 9am she'll be walking around the kopitiam with a basket of Panggang (Glutinous rice with sambal filling @ RM1) and a basket of Bak Zhang. We would buy from her everytime we have our breakfast there. Her Nyonya Bak Zhang is very delicious. Not too kiam siap on the filling too. A lot of meat in there. XD

Here's a picture of her. XD

:+: Happy Birthday Pa :+:

Belated post...

Won 4 tickets to the movies, Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Thanks to DiGi Fu-Yoh!, we celebrated Daddy's birthday differently this year. ^^ We had a SIMPLE dinner opposite Star Cineplex, Green Hill Kopitiam. We ordered lots of food, but only the Chu Bi (Glutinous/Pulut Rice) is worth blogging.

The Ang Tau (Red Bean) and Oh` (Yam) Chu Bies are the sweet type. The chu bi is sweet and chewy. The middle is soft and sweet. Everything sweet, makes you feel sweet too. *_*

The Toh Tau (Peanut) Chu Bi is the salty type. The chu bi and its peanuts are salty. I don't like this one because I prefer the sweet type ones. Hehe...
In short, the Chu Bies are really DELICIOUS! The Taukeh-Nio just peng the chu bies and it has really nice fragrance. Yummylicious! Sangat SEDAP & WANGI! Gosh.. I want some now. *craving*

The Cha Kueh is just okay. I still prefer the Cha Kueh from Kenyalang Old Market. That's the best! Nombor Satu.

The inside of Green Hill Kopitiam are all green. All the sign boards are sponsored by Milo (Green)

The movie starts at 7pm, so we had our dinner at 6pm and hopped into the cinema at 6.30pm. Early birds get the worms. It's free seating, so, if we got there earlier we could get good seats (middle of the theatre). I wanted to grab the good seats to watch my favourite Jack Sparrow and Monkey Jack.

Overall, it was a great movie! Just as I expected. Now, I shall wait for POTC 4 (if there is). ^^

Although it was a simple evening, I'm glad my Daddy enjoyed it. Some of you even asked me, "Your parents can catch the movie meh? 1st and 2nd already watch ka?"

Haahaha.. I got some DVDs for POTC 1 and 2 and made them watch it. Otherwise, they 'no head no tail' keep asking me in the movies sure very pek chek. So, prepare them for the movies first mar.. ^^

Happy Birthday Pa~!!
(28th May 2007)
:+: Waiting at the entrance :+:

When I was editing this picture, I was laughing the whole time. Why?! Look at my Daddy. He pouted!! LMAO.. Tak Sangka!

:+: My Fav KY Cafe :+:

K. Y. Cafe is one of the Kopitiam I like to go ever since I was a young.

History:
*Dug some history from my parents*
KY Cafe was once a Chinese Traditional 'Pharmacy'. I guess Mr Kiu is a chinese tai fu. He of course came from China. In 1970 or 80's, because business was not doing well and also Mr Kiu's son came back from Taiwan, they Mr Kiu changed business to a kopitiam.

:+: KY Cafe :+:

Located in Sekama area, it's a corner shop and it is impossible to miss it. Very easy to find. It's right opposite the Sekama Dangdut, Karaoke centre. *ghey place*

Don't look down on such kopitiam. It has the best local food, ok?! The kolo mee, moi and liang teh are their best! Their business is so good that you will have to wait up to 1/2 hour for your meal.

:+: Noodles section :+:

These are the Kiu Brothers. The one on the left is the one that went to Taiwan. He went there to learn masak masak.

:+: Moi, Kueh Chap & Tang Hoon section :+:

:+: Moi with Egg :+:

:+: Moi with Century Egg :+:

Normally, I would come for supper. To enjoy moi of course. Their moi is the best I tell you. I still prefer the moi cooked by ah pek, Snr Kiu.

:+: Their Special Liang Teh :+:

Their Liang Teh is one of the best in Kuching. It tastes like cin cau without the jelly.

Now, I'm craving for moi and the liang teh.

Tok Janggut is a cafe that serves only HALAL food. In other words, NO POK I TELL U, NO POK !! Tok Janggut is famous for their Nasi Briyani (especially Nasi Briyani - Camel). Nasi Briyani is originally from India. Briyani is a family of Middle Easter, Southern Asian dishes made from a mixture of spices, basmati rice, meat, vegetable and yogurt (taken from Wikipedia).
